eospatial / Data Collection Technician I
The Geospatial/Data Collection Technician I manipulates a geographic information system (GIS) to produce a mapping product using a graphics workstation, trace digitizing, and/or construction digitizing. In this role, you will edit graphics files to match specifications, and utilize custom menus and software to perform interactive file manipulations. The primary responsibility of the Geospatial/Data Collection Technician I is to conduct basic aerial and image interpretations, image registration and supporting data collection functions, in accordance with RSL procedures and protocols. This position carries out functions and activities within either the Geospatial Team or Data Collection Team.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct aerial photo and image interpretations of landscape features and conduct change-detection. Determine scale and make measurements from photography using GIS tools.
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly records and reports as required.
- Identify and escalate tasks beyond Tech I proficiency levels.
- Coordinate basic source materials.
- Perform scanning tasks as assigned.
- Perform Image-to-Image Registration.
- Utilize data recording instruments and related software. Train and acquire proficiency in relevant computer applications (e.g., ArcGIS, custom GIS software, etc.) in support of RSL activities.
- Other duties as assigned, including occasional library tasks

Education: High School diploma and appropriate college level courses or training in geographic sciences. Prefer that candidates have a minimum of an associate’s degree or certification in GIS or a related field; experience and specialized training may be substituted for education.
Experience:
- Specialized training (e.g. ESRI training courses) a plus.
- Experience with photo interpretation and/or data collection.
- Knowledge in map layout design.
- Understanding of GIS data formats.
- Awareness of GIS application approaches.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and work effectively within a team environment.

IS Technician
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) - Manages three Remote Sensing Laboratories (RSL's), each co-located with but operating independently of a National Technology Center. The centers are designed to ensure a more efficient, state-of-the-art data collection system for the National Resource Inventory (NRI), a statistical survey designed to estimate natural resource conditions and trends on the Nation's non-Federal land. The RSL's are responsible for aerial photo interpretation and various remote sensing methods used to detect changes in the land use and resource conditions at the NRI's 800,000 sample sites. Responsibilities:

Demonstrated capability to perform higher level and more technically challenging tasks involving photo interpretation, data collection analysis and verification.
Duties Include:
- Make interpretations and determinations using protocols and systems
- Perform photo interpretation to monitor change and assess condition
- Determine scale and make measurements from photography using GIS tools
- Use of data recording instruments and related software.
Requirements:
- Associates degree in a related field and a minimum of two years directly related experience; four year degree preferred; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Specialized training (e.g. ESRI training courses) a plus
- Demonstrated photo interpretation and/or data collection skills
- Knowledge in map layout design
- Understanding of GIS data formats
- Awareness of GIS application approaches
- Must have current authorization to work in the U.S.
